Our production of Tartuffe was placed in the 2010s with inspiration for our Tartuffe taken from corrupt mega church pastors (think The Righteous Gemstones). For the most part, the lighting for the production was fairly simple--a warm family home. However I wanted to emphasize how ridiculous the character for Tartuffe was in how he behaved, and often found moments to give him a halo or highlight the crosses on the wall as he gave a speech. You'll find in these images a portrait on the wall in family home that I specially lit to emphasize his influence in the house. In the scene where the family decides to stoop to his level and embrace the ridiculousness required to catch him in sinful behavior, we decided to embrace the silliness by having disco-ball inspired colorful lighting that would get "clapped" on and off throughout the scene to add to the physical humor.
