LMNOP is a musical based on the novel Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. It follows a town after letters begin to fall off of a statue. What starts as a debate about whether or not this was a sign from beyond that they should stop using the missing letters in their vocabulary ultimately becomes a militarized police force stripping folks of their rights if they use the fallen letters. In our production, we began with soft warm tones as we establish the island before the controversy began. As the tension built, we introduced green lighting to support the uneasiness felt by those who believed the censorship was uncalled for. Later, we embraced more stark red lighting to acknowledge the looming presence of the red-uniformed officers. In the end, when the island's restrictions are lifted, a combination of warmth alongside greens and reds created a unique sunrise, to acknowledge that though they had come together again, life does not go back to the way it was before, and some of the island's community would never use the fallen letters again, but by no choice of their own.
